Liz Guardia started Liberation Yoga School because she saw something missing in the trainings around her. Too often, the focus was on sequencing creativity and the perfect playlist, while the true roots of yoga – the philosophy, the ethics, the spiritual depth – were left behind. Liz knew there needed to be a space where yoga could be taught and practiced as a whole path, not just as exercise.
Liz was blessed with incredible teachers who not only shared their knowledge with care and depth, but also instilled in her the understanding that her own practice had to come first. Through their presence and example, these teachers showed Liz that yoga is something to live, not just something to teach. That lesson became the foundation of everything Liz now shares.
Over the years, Liz has had countless students come to re-do their trainings with her because they left other programs feeling like they hadn’t actually learned yoga. Their experiences confirmed what Liz had sensed all along – that people are longing for teachings that are authentic, grounded, and connected to the tradition.
Liz feels at home in India, and she has always been deeply drawn to its culture. That connection is at the heart of Liberation Yoga School. For Liz, if we are going to use the Sanskrit word and call it yoga, then it should truly be yoga: rooted in tradition, alive in practice, and respectful of from where it comes.
Liz also knows that not everyone is ready to practice in this way, and that’s okay. But there are people who are. And when the student is ready, the teachings appear. Liz’s intention is to be here for those who are ready, just as her teachers were there for her.
When Liz first considered creating a school, she didn’t feel ready. She was young compared to most other teachers and carrying these teachings forward felt like such a big responsibility. But she also knew that if no one else was offering a training that truly honored the tradition, then she had to step forward.
Liberation Yoga School grew from that calling: a space where yoga is shared as a complete path – strong in practice, but just as strong in heart, spirit, and wisdom.
About Liz
Liz has been practicing yoga for over 2 decades. Her teachings are rooted in the timeless teachings of yoga and inspired by her heart teacher, Kevan Gale. Liz tries to weave the sacred threads of tradition with a modern, relatable approach. Guided by the wisdom of my lineage, she aims to create a space where the ancient practices of yoga come alive in a way that speaks to the rhythm of contemporary life.
With a deep reverence for Sanskrit and the philosophy of yoga, Liz integrates elements such as prāṇāyāma (breath control), āsana (postures), and dhyāna (meditation) into every practice. She honors the ancient texts and teachings, drawing upon their wisdom while translating them into actionable insights for modern practitioners.
Inspired by Kevan Gale’s embodiment of yoga as both a spiritual and physical discipline, Liz strives to guide students toward a balance of sthira (stability) and sukha (ease). Her classes blend the depth of traditional practices with relatable cues and modern understanding, ensuring that yoga becomes a living, breathing part of your everyday experience.
Through this union of ancient and contemporary, Liz’s hope is to guide you toward svādhyāya (self-study), inner peace, and a deeper connection to the universal- ultimately, MOKSHA which means Liberation. Liberation Yoga School is inspired by all the teachers in Liz’s life, including her husband who gave me the surname Liberatore, which means one who liberates.
Whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the first time or seeking to deepen your practice, Liz’s goal is to hold space for your unique journey while honoring the heart of yoga’s sacred traditions.
